Anonymity

OffGrid does not require any personally identifiable information to use its Services. We don't ask for an email, phone number, social media account, real name, location, identification, or any other information linked to your real identity. All you need is an alias ID (which can be anything you choose) and a password. Neither your alias ID nor your password can be traced back to your real identity.

Messages

OffGrid doesn't store your messages, either on our servers or on your device. Messages exist temporarily on your device only while the chat is open. As soon as you leave the chat window or close the app, the messages are permanently deleted and can never be retrieved or reconstructed. In OffGrid, you can only chat in real time.
Your messages cannot be forwarded, saved, exported, or backed up.
All messages are end-to-end encrypted. We have no way of decrypting your messages. However, new technological developments have made it possible to break encryption (including the protocols used by Signal, WhatsApp, and Telegram), therefore, the most reliable way to maximize security and ensure privacy is to not store messages at all.

Metadata

OffGrid does not collect, store, log, analyze, or process any metadata other than the absolute bare minimum required to operate its Services.
We do not have any of your usage and log information, device and connection information, or location information. Your IP address is used only for connecting to our servers during app use and remains strictly on the network layer. OffGrid does not access, store, collect, or share any IP data. Using a VPN will mask your IP address and is recommended.
Any metadata generated during app operations is automatically deleted once the operation is complete.
All media, including images, videos, and files, are stripped of all metadata before being sent.
Message metadata such as timestamps are deleted in real time and never retained.
We do not use cookies inside the app.

Data Storage

Our alias ID, userID (unique 32-bit identifier), and cryptographically hashed password are encrypted and securely stored on OffGrid's servers solely for authentication purposes. Additional technical information like randomly generated authentication tokens, keys, and push tokens, which are required to transmit messages are securely stored on our server's database. No other data resides on our servers.
Locally on your device, we store your credentials (for auto login), contact list, blocked contacts, PIN and any custom configurations you make in Settings. We temporarily store contact requests for a maximum of 12 hours. Contact requests that have not been acknowledged within 12 hours will be automatically deleted. All this information remains entirely on your device, fully encrypted, and inaccessible to OffGrid or any third-parties.
We do not store your registration date, last login timestamp, or operating system information. Your messages are not stored on our servers or your device.
None of your data can be exported, forwarded, migrated, or backed up.
None of the stored data contains personally identifiable information. All data, whether on our servers or your device, is the minimum required to operate our Services.

Data Sharing

OffGrid does not disclose any of its data to any third-parties for any reason under any circumstance.
The only instance where OffGrid will be required to share its data is to meet any applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request. However, none of the data that OffGrid possesses can be traced to your real identity. The only data we possess is your alias ID, 32-bit userID, and hashed password as mentioned in the Data Storage section above.
If you hit the Killswitch, even this data will be permanently deleted from our servers and irretrievable. No record of your association with OffGrid will exist with us. However, the App Store or Play Store will have a record that you downloaded OffGrid on your device (nothing can be done about this).

Deleting Accounts

You can permanently delete your account using the Killswitch. The Killswitch is a feature in OffGrid that triggers the following sequence of events in a single click:

  • 1. Your encrypted alias ID, userID, and password are permanently deleted from our servers.
  • 2. All your device-level data is permanently wiped from your device.
  • 3. The app logs out and closes automatically.

This action leaves no trace of you on OffGrid. Nothing can be recovered.
Any account (alias ID) inactive for 45-days will automatically be deleted by OffGrid and no data will be retained.

Feedback

If you submit feedback through our website, it's completely anonymous. We don't collect personal information. However, the content of your feedback may be retained in our database to help us improve the app.

Compliance

OffGrid is compliant with the EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).
You may direct any questions, comments, or complaints regarding this privacy statement or the privacy practices to our Data Protection Officer.

Advertising

OffGrid does not engage in or allow third-party advertising. No data is collected, stored, or sold for commercial purposes. Our only revenue comes from OffGrid Pro subscriptions which are managed directly within the app.

Payment

Third-party payment processors use technologies like cookies and JavaScript as part of their services. These tools are entirely managed by the payment processors, and OffGrid has no control over them.
When you subscribe to OffGrid services, payments are processed through app store providers. OffGrid only receives payment confirmation, which includes no personal details. Confirmation codes are encrypted and stored securely on separate servers, isolated from OffGrid's core services.
Even with payment information, OffGrid cannot link it to your alias ID or real identity. Your communications remain private and untraceable.

App Stores

When using OffGrid on Android or iOS, Google or Apple may collect data about your app usage through their operating systems. This could include app open/close times, crash reports, and device information. These details might also be linked to your Google or Apple account. Unfortunately, this is a limitation of mobile platforms and applies to all apps.
iOS Users: Refer to Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines.
Android Users: Refer to the User Data section of Google’s Developer Policy Center.

Website

The OffGrid website doesn't link your activity to your real identity or create user profiles. We collect only anonymous, aggregated data to analyze website performance (e.g., browser type, time spent, and page visits). This helps us optimize the site and improve your experience.

Age

You must be 18 years of age or older to use OffGrid's services. By using our services, you confirm that you meet this requirement.
